My first published book, Compare Isaiah - Understanding Biblical Scriptures in the Book of Mormon,is a study of the biblical passages in the Book of Mormon. These include 25 pages of Isaiah in the first 100 pages of a book who's authors stated that the writing was so difficult and the space so limited that only the things of greatest value should be included within. They also stated that "not a hundreth part of their records could be recorded. I wondered why, if this was so, did Mormon elect to include so much Isaiah when he undoubtedly knew that we would have that record in our "record of the Jews" i.e. the Bible.
It made sense to me that if Mormon, and Nephi, and Abinadi, and Jesus himself, thought Isaiah's words were important enough to be included in the record of the Nephites, then I should probably take a deeper look and figure out why this was so.
What I found was a remarkable story of politics and the issues and challenges that faced Nephi and his brother Jacob as they struggled to maintain credibility with a divided community. I learned what the Lord's true purpose was in sending Abinadi to his certain death by fulfilling his mission to take the message of Iaiah to the wicked King Noah. I found a remarkable understanding as I compared the Lord's Sermon on the Mount from Matthew with his similar sermon to the Nephites.
In short, I discovered more evidences of the remarkable accomplishment that was the coming forth of the Book of Mormon by the young prophet Joseph Smith in 1830.
I hope you take a look and decide that this book will be a valuable addition to your LDS library. Let me know what you think. Drop me a note at mark@markswint.com or use the contact page on this web site.
Law of Moses - Law of Christ will be my next book. It is my attempt to reconcile the God of the Old Testament with God of the New Testament. I set out to find an acceptable asnwer to the querry, "If God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow" then why does He seem so vengeful and harsh in the Old Testament and so kind, loving and forgiving in the New Testament. I hope you will like the answers I discovered.
